One of the most important parts of maintaining your pool or spa is a proper chemical balance. More on this topic is discussed under the FAQ section of this site but suffice it to say, Snyder Pools will have just about every type of routine and specialty chemical you will need.
Sanitizers: Bromine, Chlorine or Lithium
Shocks: High Index Chlorine in liquid or powder form
Algaecides: Varying degrees of chemicals to kill algae in swimming pool water
pH and Alkalinity Controls: To raise or lower the acidity of swimming pool water
Stabilizers: To maximize the residual effect of chemical sanitizers
Flocking Agents: Liquid and Powder chemicals designed to clear cloudy water
Enzymes: Natural or synthetic enzymes designed to "digest" oil and scum in water and on waterline

Ideally, the best way to introduce sanitizers to your pool or spa is daily through the skimmer. While Snyder Pools doesn't recommend the use of floating-type chlorine feeders due to the danger of bleaching liners, there are alternative chlorinators that can be plumbed into the discharge side of the filtration system. BE SURE TO USE ONLY RECOMMENDED CHEMICALS FOR THESE TYPE OF FEEDERS! There are also some highly technical means of water sanitizing such as Na++ Ionizers, Ionized Metal Feeders and Ultra Violet Radiation Sanitizers. Snyder Pools can educate you on all these items.
Snyder Pools has a complete line of inflatable pool toys and games. A constantly changing inventory means you should always stop by and see what's new!
There are many products on the market designed to clean the floor and sides of your swimming pool. It is Snyder Pool's position to recommend those items that actually VACUUM the pool. While Snyder Pools sells and services the other type of "tentacle" agitator cleaners, we feel a cleaner should actually vacuum the pool, not just stir the water so your filter picks up the dirt.
To the right, you see the AQUABUG. This unique cleaner is designed for above ground swimming pools. It does an excellent job of vacuuming dirt with it's patented "aquapilot" drive system.
Here on the right is The Navigator. Another revolutionary product by Hayward, the Navigator is the second-generation Pool Vac that also sports the "aquapilot" drive system insuring complete cover of the pool bottom and hopper (slanted sides of an in-ground pool. The Navigator is designed for in ground pools and is by far, Snyder Pools' most popular selling automatic cleaner.
Filters are about as varied as any other apparatus for your swimming pool. A necessary part in maintaining your pool's water quality and general cleanliness, you must be sure to chose the correct size and type of filter:
Cartridge Filters: This type of filter uses a paper filter cartridge similar to an air filter in a car. While effective, this filter is most commonly reserved for use in spas or very small pools.
Sand Filters: This type of filter uses varying grades of sand to filter the water. Water coming from the pool is sprayed down on top of a bed of sand. As the water filters down to the collectors, the sand traps particulate matter. Sand filters require comparatively less maintenance and can handle huge volumes of water. The relative large size of sand granules requires sand filters run longer to maintain water clarity.

Diatomaceous Earth filters are arguably the most effective filters for cleaning water. This type of filter uses a fine filter media (<1 micron) which is actually a mined product composed of the ground and refined skeletal remains of diatoms, which are microscopic marine animals. As with sand, Diatomaceous Earth comes in varying grades and purities. Please be sure to educate yourself before purchasing any filtering media.
Since the diatoms capture much finer dirt, D.E. filters do require more attention and backwashing compared to sand filters. D.E. filters also require the medium to be replaced after backwashing. Conversely, your pool water will remain much clearer with decreased operation thus saving energy.
There are two common types of D.E. Filters: Perflex (finger) type and Grid types. Each model has its pros and cons and Snyder Pools will be happy to educate you on the benefits of each type.
The pump is the heart of your pool. And like your own heart, it must be in perfect condition to function properly. Pumps come in different sizes and shapes. A pool professional at Snyder Pools will help you understand the size you need. This not only depends upon the size of your pool but other factors must be considered such as distance, elevation, peripherals such as heaters, chlorinators and the type of filter you are using.
In ground pools will employ the Hayward Superpump as pictured to the right. Above ground pools will generally make use of the Hayward Powerflo pump as pictured below.
Be Ware of Imitations! Not every pump is the same. Horsepowers ARE NOT consistent. A ratio of HP to Flow must be taken into consideration. While it may be tempting, remember YOU DO GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR!
Holding this all together is a series of valves and fittings. The professionals at Snyder Pools are specially trained and licensed by the State of Connecticut to be able to identify and equip each swimming pool filtration system with the most up to date and appropriate fittings and valves. Snyder Pools also has a complete stock of valves and fittings for the do-it-yourselfer in addition to replacement parts for valves and fittings from various manufacturers.

There's nothing nicer than being able to enjoy your swimming pool on a cool summer night or even open it early and keep it open later in the season. There are a variety of ways to achieve warmer pool water.
A solar blanket can accomplish this by harnessing the sun's rays and focusing them into the water thus converting the light into heat. Blankets come in different thicknesses and types and do a nice job of gaining 1-2 degrees per day but more importantly will insulate the water from losing heat overnight. Generally, a blanket will be much easier when used with a reel as pictured to the right. Snyder Pools sells Cantar solar heating products which are the leader in quality and performance.
If it's serious hot water you're looking to get into, then a gas pool heater is what you want. While electric heaters and heat pumps are available, it has been the experience of Snyder Pools that these items are largely inefficient and expensive to run and are better suited for smaller bodies of water.
Gas heaters are available in many different sizes and come equipped to handle natural gas or propane. They come with electronic ignitions and are very safe to use, easy and heat the water quickly.
While it's best to have a heater installed when you first build your pool, Snyder Pools can easily retro-fit an appropriate heater with generally little modifications needed.
WINTER COVERS & SUPPLIES:
No, nobody likes to think about it but it's a fact of life here in the Northeast. We have to close our pools for the winter. While some people choose to do this themselves, Snyder Pools does offer this service. Special winter chemicals, antifreeze, covers, water bags, plugs, etc. are all available at Snyder Pools.

Winter covers come in two main types: Solid covers secured with water bags (pictured above) or Safety Covers which are anchored into the concrete deck. Snyder Pools carries and installs both types.
SOLID COVERS are generally more affordable and come in various sizes to fit your pool. It is important to leave enough overlap when purchasing one of these covers. It is frustrating when a leaf-ridden cover falls into the pool. Small pumps are also available to keep water from accumulating on top of the cover. These solid covers come in a variety of grades and have respective warranty's of 7-10 years. It is also necessary to purchase enough vinyl water tubes to completely go around the perimeter of the pool cover without leaving gaps for wind or debris to get in. Dual chamber is best so as to keep weight on the cover if one side leaks. NEVER use cinder blocks or rocks. Not only will this damage your cover, it could tear your liner if they get pulled into the pool!
SAFETY COVERS are generally custom fit and require professional installation. They come in varying grades and either mesh or solid. Stretched tight across the pool, they will support a child or other person who happens to wander across them. Snyder Pools offers the following safety covers:

Created with the latest Computer Aided Design (CAD) systems, your Dura-Mesh cover will fit tight, taut, and level. The cover won’t hold water so algae growth is reduced, and leaves and debris simply blow away. The industry and professional standard for decades, Dura-Mesh covers offer the ultimate in pool safety and value.
Available in blue, black or green.
Unlike other “bag” solid covers, Merlin’s “tension-Secure” solid cover combines safety with the complete barrier a vinyl cover provides. The water-resistant solid cover keeps out dirt, dust, and sunlight, which means no algae growth. It also means you open your pool to clean, crystal clear water. The Solid Safety cover uses either an automatic pump or micro-filter panel to remove any standing water. The Window Mesh Drain Panel uses dual layers of micro-mesh material to let water (filtered to 250 microns) pass through.
Available in blue or green
Merlin developed the first mesh for high-load, high-stress applications. In terms of break strength, the material is unmatched-nearly double that of standard mesh. For pools with rough coping or decking, or those in windy areas, Advanced Grade resists abrasion. Its thicker, denser material holds up to the brick and stone edges of today’s “natural Look” pools and is backed by a 20 year warranty, the longest in the industry.
Available in blue, black or green.
Available in twelve colors, Kaleidoscapes allow the consumer to break free from everyday solid safety covers. Consumers can have their cover match their favorite sports team, compliment their homes décor or blend their safety cover into their landscape. Kaleidoscapes can also be striped in up to three colors! Kaleidoscapes is a 15-oz. solid vinyl material providing added UV protection and superior strength. Kaleidoscapes are offered along with Merlin’s Design Mesh, Safety Solid, and Advanced Grade Mesh Covers.
Snyder Pools also has various plugs, water bags, gizmos, plugs, etc. available. The professionals at Snyder Pools prefer to use threaded plugs rather than rubber stopper types. This insures a tight fit without the chance of falling out. Pool grade antifreeze (NOT RV antifreeze or windshield washer) is also very critical. A few bucks for extra antifreeze is better than digging up cracked lines!
From fountains, to floating lights, in-wall lights, fiber optics, ladders and more, Snyder Pools is more than just a supply house. Let the personal attention of people with years of experience help you enjoy your pool!
